Jordan McMullin

Jordan McMullin, long-time resident of Coupeville and a descendant of pioneer Washington State families, passed away Dec. 20, 2005 at Whidbey General Hospital after a brief bout with pneumonia. She was 98 years old.

Jordan was born at home on Federal Avenue in Seattle on Oct. 16, 1907.

She was the daughter of Irena Francis Wiseman Cope and Andy T. Cope. Her grandfather, Jonathan Tipton Wiseman, came to Fort Walla Walla by wagon train in 1850 and led a second train in 1857. Jordan’s family had homes in Walla Walla and she lived there in her teen years.

Jordan McMullin will be remembered by her many Whidbey Island friends as a lovely, warm and generous lady who lived surrounded by exotic paintings by her sister, Irene, and by arts and crafts from India which she collected during her years living there in the late 1950s. Her stories of dinners with Maharajas and holidays in the Vale of Kashmir entertained and amazed everyone who heard them. She loved and was devoted to the care of animals, particularly birds and her adopted cat, Milo.

Jordan was married and widowed twice. Her son by her first marriage to Ernest Ossman is David Ossman of Freeland. Her daughter-in-law is Judith Walcutt. She has four loving grandchildren, Devin, Orson and Preston Ossman, all of Freeland, and Alizon Harris of Los Angeles, and four great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Zachery, Jordana and Gavrielle Harris.

She is also survived by her devoted son-in-law, Anthony Harris and daughter-in-law Candy Houser Ossman; her former daughter-in-law, Bettine Wallin, a friend for more than 50 years; her beloved nieces Sandra Craig of Bali, Indonesia and Kate Reynolds of Beijing, China; her treasured goddaughter Nandini Agarwal of Dubai, U.A.E. and honored godson, Hersh Chadha, also of Dubai.

A memorial brunch will be scheduled in the new year. Contributions in her name may be made to WAIF.
