Kenneth John Barnett

Kenneth John Barnett was born on January 30, 1947 in Everett, Washington to Mary Frances and Kenneth Keaton Barnett. He grew up in Everett and graduated from Cascade High School in 1964. John enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school and was stationed in Southern California where he trained and specialized as a computer science technician. After his time in the service, he lived in So. California as an electrician until 1980, he then relocated with his two sons, Chris and Eric, to the Pacific Northwest. In 1983, he took a job at the University of Washington Medical Center as a hospital engineer. In 1988 he married Cindy Bogart and they moved to Whidbey Island where they built their home on five acres. John had a third son, Parker, whom was born to them in 1990.

John recently retired from the U of W with 30 years of service. In his youth he was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life he traded in his guns and camo for his pool and floaty toys. He also enjoyed sturgeon fishing and crabbing with friends. John had a passion for flying airplanes and could be found at the park with his model planes. For many years John played in several bands as the lead vocalist and could always be relied upon to break-out in song at any opportunity.

John will be missed for his quick wit, his enormous love for his family and his ability to go shirtless at any time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Donald K. Barnett.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, sons Chris (Kim), Eric (Tammy) and Parker (Ashley), his sisters, Bonnie Davis, Carolee Prater (Ron) and brother Pete (Shannon), his sister and brother in law Kenny and Vernetta Carlson, his grandkids Spencer, Brandon, Hailey and Sarah, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Uncle John, you left us too early. We are neither ready nor willing to be without you. But, alas, we have no choice in the matter. Goodbye dear husband, father, brother, pops and friend. We love you so much.

A memorial was held on Sunday, August 12 at 1 pm, at the home of Ron and Carolee Prater.
