Lloyd Christofferson

Lloyd Frederick “Chris” Christofferson passed away Aug. 19, 2008.

Chris is survived by Irene, his wife of 64 years; children Erika Sweger, Camille Kariya, Steve Christofferson; and four grandchildren.

Chris was born on Nov. 24, 1916 in Duluth, Minn. and lived in Norway as a child. His experiences there and growing up in the Midwest shaped the values and principles that guided his life.

Chris graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1941. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander in the Navy (submarine service, Pacific theater, World War II).

Chris and Irene settled in Seattle in 1946. He enjoyed a 32-year engineering career, retiring as chairman and CEO of Bouillon, Christofferson & Schairer.

Over the years Chris was involved with a variety of mechanical designs including hospitals, universities, aerospace, naval facilities and downtown Seattle office buildings. He was past president of Consulting Engineers Council of Washington and was named engineer of the year in 1972. Chris was active in ASHRAE and Seattle Rotary and served on the board of Goodwill.

In 1995 Chris and Irene moved to Whidbey Island permanently to play golf at Useless Bay and spend more time at the family cabin which was built in 1959.

Chris will be remembered by his family and friends for his integrity, steadfast principles and generous nature.

The family welcomes friends to a gathering at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, following a private service.
