Lois Kay

Lois Elizabeth Kay, a longtime resident at Wheel Estates in Langley, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 as a result of a severe stroke.

Lois was born in Jay, Okla. on Feb. 27, 1916. She was the last surviving of 11 children of Emma Dora Effie Lee Bush and Luther Eldon Bush.

In the 1930s, the family left the Dust Bowl and Depression of Oklahoma and moved to Hood River, Ore.

In Oklahoma, she met and later married George Newton Kay, who helped drive the family to Oregon. They settled in Twin Falls, Idaho, where George worked as an auto-body repairman, loved the outdoors and became the manager of Idaho’s first automated bowling alley, the Magic Bowl.

Lois and George were avid bowlers and competed in tournaments throughout the West. Prior to her retirement in 1978, Lois was employed as a clerk in the assessor’s office in Twin Falls, Idaho.

She is survived by her sons, Jim, of Carmichael, Calif. and Gary, of Clinton. Her youngest son, Larry, died of pancreatic cancer in 2009. She had four grandchildren: Molly, Mount Vernon, Gary Jr., Seattle, Meghann, Leesburg, Va. and Ashley, Bothell.
