Marlene Fletcher

P. Marlene “Mardie” Fletcher of Freeland peacefully at rest on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at age 73.

She was the cherished wife of 15 years to Robert Fletcher, beloved mother of Diana McNamara, and Melia (Ron) Linneman; dear grandmother to Rosemary, Emily, and Rachel McNamara, Natalie and Nicholas Linneman; great-grandmother to James Orf; dearest sister to Janet (Jerry) Kasten, Wanda (Gary) Huffman and John Cochran; and dear sister-n-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend to many.

She was born Phyllis Marlene McNail on July 10, 1937 in Webster Groves, Mo. to Raymond and Juanita McNail.

She grew up on a farm in rural Missouri, graduated from Eureka High School, and married Larry L. Kasten in 1957, who preceded her in death in 1968.

She met Robert Fletcher 16 years ago, fell in love, and married him in May 1995. The two of them lived a very loving, happy life in their “cabin in the woods” on south Whidbey Island, surrounded by wildlife, trees, flowers, and good friends and neighbors.

Mom was outgoing, fun-loving, humorous, loved a good joke, a good cocktail, and laughed heartily. She had a zest for life, and she and Bob made many visits to see us, her family in St. Louis, and had family out to visit them often.

No service was planned at her request.
