Martha Bergmann

Martha Bergmann, 104, died April 23, 2013 in Clinton. She was a lifelong resident of New Jersey until moving to the Northwest in 2000 to live with her daughter Barbara and Barbara’s family, first in Madras, Ore., and then in Freeland, both small towns a far cry from Clifton, N.J., a suburb of New York City where she had lived for many years.

Martha was a devout Catholic all her life and her faith was a source of great solace through all of life’s trials, especially those of advanced age in her final years.

Thankfully, she was sharp as a tack mentally right to the end, enjoying doing her daily crossword puzzles and following the news, both in the world and in the family. She watched many a Mariners game on TV, with the same confusion as the rest of us.

Sadly, she was preceded in death by most of the important people in her life, including her husband Joe, and her beloved son Joseph. She is survived by her daughter Barbara of Freeland, her son-in-law Bruce Morris, whom she loved and admired, and her grandson Evan Derickson, the young, energetic light of her life.

A memorial get together will be held at a later time; any memorial donations should be made to Doctors without Borders.
