Norb Krumvieda, loving husband, father, brother and friend, 88, a resident of Langley, died Thursday evening, Oct. 30, 2008 at his daughter Sandy’s home in Cashmere.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1919 to Henry J. and Ida A. (VanWoert) Krumvieda in Canistota, S.D. where he was raised and educated and worked on the family farm.
Norb’s friendship with Rosalyce Irene Bowen grew as they both grew up in Canistota.
They were married on Feb. 25, 1941 in Omaha, Neb. They made their home on a farm near Canistota where he farmed with his father.
Norb and Rosalyce soon moved to the family farm where they raised their family. In 1959 they moved with the entire family of seven children to Seattle.
While in Seattle, Norb worked as a carpenter until retiring in 1981 from E. J. Bartells Co.
In 1982, they moved to their property on Whidbey Island to enjoy retirement.
Norb remodeled and improved their home and they enjoyed summers because of the many families and friends who would visit. There he was involved in the community. He would be the first to greet the new neighbors, oversee neighborhood construction projects, build picnic tables and benches that he would donate. He would also mow and maintain some of the community properties. He was always there to lend a helping hand.
Norb and Rosalyce enjoyed traveling in their RV. They preferred to spend their winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. They were members of several trailer/RV clubs and would often travel, visiting friends and family. He also loved fishing, clamming, crabbing and hobbies such as welding and woodworking.
Norb was loved by all he met. He will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand and his strong work ethic, a trait that he passed on to all of his children.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalyce Krumvieda of Coupeville; daughters, Sandy (John) Potts of Cashmere, Peg (Norm) Walen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kim (Jim) Buchan of Cashmere and Sonya (David) Coates of Spokane Valley; daughter-in-law Sharon Krumvieda of Seeley Lake, Mont.; sons, Tim (Marie) Krumvieda of Fort Bragg, Calif. and Tom Krumvieda of Boulder Creek, Calif.; sisters, Nonie Weiland of Arlington, S.D. and Rose Weiland of Florence, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jim in 1998, and two sisters, Arlene and Dorothy.
At Norb’s request, no service will be held at this time.
Ward’s Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is handling the arrangements.
