Norman Stockholm

Norman Stockholm passed away peacefully on June 30, 2011 in the loving arms of his caregiver, Kathy Varney, who loved him like a dad. He longed to join his wife, Doris, who passed away in January. They were soul mates since high school and would have been married 60 years on Aug. 18.

On Nov. 4, 1930, brother Gordon was joined by Norman and his twin brother Jerry, “The Buddies,” as they were known growing up. They spent their first 11 years in San Leandro, Calif. before their parents George and Esther Stockholm decided to move the family to Whidbey Island. Norm always considered himself an islander.

He is survived by his brothers Gordon G. Stockholm and Jerry E. Stockholm (Donna); his children James and Linda (David Hendrickson); grandchildren Heather Saxton (Chad), Rachel Soto (Mike), Ashley Stockholm, Marni Wilson (Sebastian), Dale Hendrickson; great-grandchildren Savannah and Dane Saxton, Madeline and Brandon Judy, Taylor Rowalt, Jacob Bauer and Isaac Soto.

Norm will be remembered as a wonderful father, attentive grandfather and loving great-grandfather who taught life lessons by example. He gave unselfishly to others and often lent a helping hand to the community whenever the need would arise.

A celebration of Norman’s life will be held at the Maxwelton baseball field at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
