Roger Kastning

Roger Kastning was born Oct. 29, 1933 in Govan, Saskatchewan to Gaylord and Georgia Kastning, German descendants.

The family moved from Govan in 1947 to Ellensburg.

Roger graduated from Thorp High School in 1951. Then he met Edna Henson in 1952 on a blind date, and the couple were married on April 11, 1953.

Roger served in the U.S. Army for two years, from May 1953 to May 1955.

The couple moved to Mercer Island, where they lived for seven years. When the house became too small for four kids — Stephen Lee, Brenda Ann, Kevin Bruce and Darin Mark — they packed up and moved to Bothell, where they raised their kids for the next 17 years. In 1979, they moved to Whidbey Island.

Roger worked in the automotive industry as an auto-glass installer and manager for a Seattle-based company.

In 1980, Roger finally was able to live his dream. He opened his own auto-glass company, becoming a successful and well-respected businessman. Roger and Edna retired in 1998. They moved to Camano Island in 2000, where they lived until 2007.

Roger was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2006 but had symptoms much earlier. They moved to Green Acres Mobile Home Park in November 2007, where they lived until his death on March 9, 2010.

He is preceded in death by his son Stephen.

He is survived by wife Edna; daughter Brenda and husband Jim; sons Kelvin and wife Vicki, and Darin and husband Patrick; 10 grandchildren; and

10 great-grandchildren.

Roger was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bothell, and will be greatly missed.
