Roxie Clara Greene Donahue passed away
June 14, 2009.
She was born April 28, 1937 in Monroe, La. to Chester and Ferne Greene, and Roxie was named after her two grandmothers.
She was raised in El Dorado, Ark. and attended Lindenwood University in
St. Charles, Mo.
While in St. Charles, she met Roger Donahue. They were married in London, England, in 1959 and had three sons; Michael (of Seattle), Scott (of Seattle) and Andrew (of Singapore). The Donahue family moved to Seattle in 1969, and Roxie retired to Whidbey Island in 1994.
In addition to her sons, she is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Reynolds of Cleburne, Texas, daughters-in-law Mary Ann and Shelly, and two granddaughters, McKenna and Morgan, who were very special to her. She leaves behind two nephews and many, many friends who enjoyed her southern charm, good humor and generous spirit. These friends — Ralph, Emery, Mickie, Henry and Lucy, among others — were her family on Whidbey and an important part of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Good Cheer Food Bank and Thrift Stores, PO Box, 144, Langley, WA 98260 or Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF), PO Box 1108, Coupeville, WA 98239.
A celebration of her life will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 21 in the clubhouse at her apartment complex at 150 Fourth St., Langley.
