Ruth Morgan

Ruth Shelton Morgan peacefully passed into the presence of her Lord on Sept. 16, 2010. She was residing in an assisted living facility in Centralia and spent her last few days surrounded by family.

Ruth was born in Pomeroy, Wash. on March 21, 1921 to her parents Ross and Helen (Anderson) King. She had four brothers and three sisters and spent her childhood in Pomeroy and attended school there.

On Aug. 26, 1939 she married John Shelton in Lewiston, Idaho and they farmed in Garfield County until the time of Dad’s death in 1971. Mom then moved to town and worked for Dye Seed Ranch for 10 years until her retirement.

In 1984 she married John Morgan in Langley, leaving her lifetime residence in Pomeroy and moving to Whidbey Island. She and John enjoyed almost 25 years together prior to his passing in April 2009.

Ruth is survived by her children, Kay Schmit of Onalaska and Mike and Marla Shelton of Olympia. After her marriage in 1984 to John she acquired two more children, Don Morgan of Hawaii and Denise Olson of Nevada. She is grandmother to nine, great-grandmother to 16, and great-great-grandmother to three. She is survived by her sister and only surviving sibling, Marjorie Tetrick of Pomeroy. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews, she is also survived by a very dear friend whom she considered a sister, Betty Gibson of Spokane. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, four brothers and two sisters.

Mom was a lifetime Christian and always active in her church, teaching Sunday school and serving as a deaconess. The Pomeroy Christian Church, the Langley Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and the Cooks Hill Community Church in Centralia helped meet Mom’s spiritual needs during her life. Mom’s relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ was the first priority in her life and the second was her family. Every family member understands that we have lost our biggest cheerleader and she will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

A graveside service will be held at the Pomeroy cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 followed by a memorial service at the Pomeroy Christian Church with the Rev. Howard Neal officiating. At 2 p.m. Oct. 2, there will be a memorial service at the Langley Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Whidbey Island with the Rev. Bob Welch officiating.
