Shirley Halverson graced and left our lives Jan. 24, 2007.
She was born Oct. 5, 1911, in Orting, to Raymond and Ethel Bumstead. The family settled in the Everett area where she met Art Halverson. They wed on May 30, 1931, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2001.
Shirley, a resident of Whidbey Island for 51 years, enjoyed a rich life living on Sunlight Beach and the little home and cabinet shop in Mutiny Bay. They spent months at a time traveling with their large group of friends fishing on the Lewis or Columbia rivers, duck and goose hunting in Canada and eastern Washington. Shirley was active in a decorative painting group, participated in Red Hat Society and enjoyed dinners out with her Friday night group.
She is survived by her son, Roy Halverson (Linda); daughter Joy Halladay; five grandchildren, Jamie Halladay (Susan). daughter Emma, Randy Halladay. Raeanne Testin (Jim), Roberta McCune, Barbara Kaiser (Bill) and their son Jerib; sisters Verna Ratliff, Phyllis Master; brother George Bumstead; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her large extended family of friends that enriched her life.
Visitation is at Visser Funeral Home in Langley from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, prior to the graveside service at 11 a.m. at the Bayview Cemetery.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will follow at the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club at 3334 Brooks Hill Road in Langley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association or Whidbey General Hospital Ambulance Fund.
