Sondra Brewer

Sondra Noel Brewer, 38, died Nov. 25, 2003, in the crash of a single-engine plane near Scappoose, Ore. Also killed in the crash were her husband, Phil Brewer, and her two daughters, Elisse Vandeventer, 11, and Marisa Vandeventer, 9.

Sondra was born Nov. 28, 1964. Her family moved to Whidbey Island in 1972, and she grew up on a six-acre site on South Whidbey. She had many animals, but especially enjoyed her horses. She was involved in horse 4-H, and at age 16 she was queen of the North Whidbey Stampede rodeo. She was involved with the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Langley.

While in school she worked part-time at Payless Foods in Freeland and at the Star Store. She graduated from South Whidbey High School in 1982 and from the University of Washington in 1989. She later earned CPA, CIA and CMA certificates in public accounting. She worked for several years for the Moss Adams accounting firm in Everett. She was most recently employed at KempWest in Snohomish.

The joy of her life was her husband of two years, Phil Brewer, and her two daughters, Elisse Vandeventer, 11, and Marisa Vandeventer, 9.

She is survived by her parents, Bob and DeDee Ross, Langley; two sisters, Chrissy O’Keefe and Debbie Hughes, both of Langley; a brother, Steve, Waco, Texas; and two grandmothers, Barbara Benofsky, Langley, and Marie Ross, Auburn, Calif.

A memorial service for Sondra will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Langley.
