Warren Fitzpatrick

Warren J. Fitzpatrick, 91, of Whidbey Island, passed away on April 4, 2012; a short time after the loss of his wife of 69 years, Marian. Warren was born in New York, N.Y., to Joseph and Catherine Fitzpatrick.

Warren met his wife, Marian, at Flushing High School. After graduation Warren joined the Air Force and marred Marian at Maxwell Air Force Base in 1943. During the war Warren was a B25 navigator/bombardier and completed his war time duty in the Pacific. After the war he served as a 1st Lt. C.O. of a supply tracking company in Japan. Upon returning to the U.S., Warren joined Northwest Airlines as a flight dispatcher and he and his family moved to Japan in 1949. They lived there until 1955 and then again from 1961 to 1968. During other assignments they lived in Long Island, NY, Edina, MN, and Renton, WA. Warren was notably proud of his service in all union capacities during his time with Northwest Airlines.

Upon his retirement to Whidbey Island, Warren was active in the community. For many years he served as president with the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation board and for many years enjoyed tutoring at the local public schools. In the 1980s Warren served on the Board of Useless Bay Country Club and as financial chairman during the original club expansion. Active in the Republican Party, Warren strongly believed in the basic values of his country. Warren served as a junior warden of St. Augustine Episcopal Church and joined the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Langley in the early 1990s. His passion in the late years was playing bridge with his friends.

Surviving Warren is his son, Warren “Tod” Fitzpatrick and his wife, Christine Kelly of Westerly, RI; his grandchildren, Justin and Becca Fitzpatrick of Fort Collins, CO, Cara Fitzpatrick of Arlington, VA, Evan and Madison Fitzpatrick of Boston, MA; and his great grandchildren, Riley, Jace and Holland. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Juliet Cinnater as well his niece Lynn and husband Roger Vehorn of Whidbey Island and their children Ben, Alex, Molly, Julie, Jessica and Abby as well as his niece Gai Jespersen and her husband Peter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Langley Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
