Obama can’t win on his record | LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dan (Letters, “Why our country is in trouble,” March 14) and his fellow far left democrats must be worried, and rightfully so. When people become scared, they stop discussing their accomplishments and start lashing out at their opponents. The fear of Obama possibly losing re-election in November must just be overwhelming for them.

Aren’t you bothered at all that while Obama is bowing down to another foreign leader, apologizing for the burning of a few holy books, six American troops were murdered? I must have missed the apology from Karzai!

In the spirit of being fair and balanced, let’s take a look at how Obama is doing on his 2008 campaign promises. Last fall, Mr. Obama told “Rolling Stone” he figured his administration had “probably accomplished 70 percent of the things that we said we were going to do.” The watchdog organization politifact.com has been keeping track and puts candidate Obama’s list of promises at a staggering 506; of those they say the president has kept 122, or 24 percent. Coincidentally, of the 25 selected as the most significant promises, politifact.com says Obama has followed through on six.

Let’s take a closer look at the spin the administration is putting on specific sectors.

Unemployment rate: Drops to 8.5 percent. Not so fast, if you factor in the under-employed and the people that have given up and dropped out of the job market, the rate is closer to 14 percent.

National debt: Continues to rise at an alarming pace. Due to the lack of oversight, increased government, massive entitlement spending, and bad investments, Obama has by far outspent any president in history and we have little to show for it.

Obama care: Something the majority of Americans did not want yet Obama forced it on us. The  Congressional Budget Office now estimates the cost of Obama care to be twice as expensive as originally reported. Full accounting will put the price tag at $2.6 trillion over 10 years! I guess they’ll just print more money.

Gas prices: It’s clear Obama is pushing green energy to appease his environmental base. During the 2008 campaign, Obama said he thinks we should be paying gas prices similar to Europe ($8 a gallon). His own Energy Secretary Chu restated that fact to Congress this week, only to back pedal after meeting with the White House. He had to lobby his own party to shut down the Keystone project and now those jobs and oil will likely go to China. Obama claims to have opened up a large number of areas for new oil exploration, but due to over regulation, red tape, and costs, the fact is there have been 30 percent fewer actual drilling permits issued on average during his four years.

Blaming Bush and past Republican presidents for the mess we are currently in is old news and won’t fool the American people. The only way Obama gets re-elected is to spin the facts, continue to promise people free stuff, and hope the people that love this country and the capitalism it’s based on stay home in November.
