Crabs take down Twins

The Whidbey Crabs won a doubleheader against the Twins to run their season record to a perfect 10-0 on Sunday in a Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association contest.11-4 and 9-4.

In the opener, the Crabs scored one run in the first inning and two in the third to take the lead 3-0. The Twins rallied to 3-2, but the Crabs scored three runs in the fourth, and added four more in the fifth to take a commanding lead. Connor Antich led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort.

Charlie Patterson picked up two singles to help the cause. Trent Piehler started the game on the mound picking up the 11-4 win, and was relieved by Max Divina, Patterson and Antich.

In the final game, the Crabs jumped out with two runs in the first and another pair in the second inning to take a 4-0, while Hayden Brymer shut the Twins down through three innings of pitching. Ricky Muzzy blew the game open with a blast over the left field fence in the fifth inning putting the Crabs in the lead, 8-1.

Peter Jacobs, Will Simms and Muzzy closed out the game for the Crabs with relief pitching. Muzzy led all hitters with three hits in the 9-4 victory.

The Crabs travel to Mountlake Terrace on Wednesday to visit the MTYAA Titans for a 5:30 p.m. game.

Whidbey Island’s Pony League team will have a car wash at the Clinton Les Schwab Tire Center on Saturday to raise money for a Memorial Day tournament.  The car wash begins at 10:30 a.m.
