Eastside Prep grabs narrow win over Falcons / Tennis

Eastside Prep eked by the South Whidbey High School tennis team 3-2 in a highly competitive match Friday, Oct. 4, in Langley.

Both Falcon points came in doubles in the only one-sided matches of the contest. Brothers Levi and Ranger Buck won in first doubles 6-3, 6-2; while Austin Buck and Emmett Layman captured third doubles 6-0, 6-4.

Ben Roughsedge and Jordan Wu were edged in second doubles 6-1, 4-6, 10-8; Max Rodriquez lost 7-5, 6-7, 6-0 in first singles; and Ian Maddox fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 in second singles.

The match between the two teams Thursday was rained out, so they tried to play a double header Friday. Pro sets were used for the second round but only the doubles matches were completed before darkness set in. Levi and Ranger Buck won 8-7, and Austin Buck and Layman won 8-6.

South Whidbey (3-6) plays at Bear Creek at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
