South Whidbey’s fastpitch team rallied in the sixth inning to defeat Sultan on April 18.

The Falcon girls scored four runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-5 lead, then held off the Turks with the bases loaded for an 8-7 victory.

Sultan led after scoring four runs in the third inning.

South Whidbey chipped away, scoring once in the third inning and three times in the fourth inning. Trailing 5-4, the Falcons added four runs thanks to a monster, bases-clearing double by senior Chantel Brown, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, to the left field fence. Her shot scored three runs, and Brown was able to score on an overthrow at third base.

In the seventh inning, the Turks proved patient at the plate. Sultan got a pair of walks, followed by a RBI single to cut the lead to 8-6. Another walk loaded the bases and scored a run to make it a one-run game.

But Falcon freshman pitcher Kacie Hanson got the next three outs with a strikeout and two pop flies.
