The South Whidbey boys golf team scored a big win Monday, placing first in a Cascade Conference match at Useless Bay Golf Club.

South Whidbey finished with a team score of 428, ahead of Archbishop Murphy and King’s (tied at 441), Lakewood (451), Sultan (490) and Cedarcrest (498).

The individual medalist honor went to South Whidbey’s Harrison Price, who shot a low 81. Shane Thompson and Jesse Portillo tied at 84 for the Falcons, Josh Yingling shot 85, Quinton Viers (in his first varsity match), 94 and Ben Saari, 96.

“Harrison has really elevated his game; he’s peaking at just the right time,” said Falcon coach Steve Jones.

“At this point, we are a half-point away from first place,” Jones added. “We still have Archbishop Murphy, then league championships in Snohomish in three weeks. We are clearly in the hunt.”

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, the Falcons host Edmonds-Woodway and Shorecrest.
