The Falcons girls fastpitch softball team came up big in a rematch with Cedarcrest on Monday, winning a 12-2 conference victory at home to keep third place in the conference.

Last Friday, the Falcons lost to Cedarcrest, 10-5.

The Falcons are 8-6 in the league and 10-6 overall going into the last week of league play.

The Red Wolves scored one run in the first inning, but the Falcon defense got out of a bases-loaded jam, with senior shortstop Jazmyn Gaham turning a double play by catching an over-the-head pop-up and throwing to first to catch the Cedarcrest runner.

In the second inning, Falcon pitcher Rebecca Stratton dug in after giving up a home run to the first batter.

“She made some critical adjustments on the mound and didn’t allow another run,” Falcon coach Chuck Burton said.

Nikki Parra led the Falcon offense, going three-for-three with three RBIs.

Parra has been performing well at the plate, going six-for-seven the past seven trips for a .550 batting average.

“She is having a fantastic season,” Burton said.

In the fifth inning, the Falcon’s offense exploded for nine runs. Allannah Alber, Rebecca Stratton and Amanda Cochran, along with pinch-runners Chantal White and Alexis Brown all had huge contribution.

In earlier action, the Falcons hit the road to Cedarcrest last Friday, with Cedarcrest winning 10-5.

Cedarcrest scored three in the first inning, but the Falcons rallied, tying the game at three-all in the third, thanks to Parra, who drove in two runs and was two-for-three at the plate.

But Cedarcrest’s offense took over late in the game, scoring seven in the fifth.
