As part of the Choochokam Arts festival this weekend in Langley, the third annual half-marathon will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, July 11.

The race begins at the corner of Second Street and De Bruyn Avenue, finishing at the main Choochokam Arts stage

13.1-miles later.

“New this year, we will have everyone running with electronic timing chips on their ankles,” said race organizer Matt Simms. “Just like the big guys do.”

For those looking for a slower pace, a 10-kilometer walk will benefit the South Whidbey Parks Foundation.

The awards ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on the main stage next to the Dog House Tavern. Simms said that with the good weather, more than 200 runners are expected this year.

The cost is $50 for the half-marathon, $15 for the walk on the day of the race.
