Island Athletic hosts indoor triathlon

Whidbey Island’s first indoor triathlon will be held at the end of April.

Whidbey Island’s first indoor triathlon will be held at the end of April.

Island Athletic Club is looking for competitors for its inaugural indoor triathlon. The race will take place Sunday, April 28 at Island Athletic Club in Freeland.

The first wave of competitors will begin at 8 a.m. with the last group scheduled to finish around 12:30 p.m.

Unlike a traditional race where the objective is course time, the Whidbey indoor triathlon will measure how far one can go in a fixed amount of time. The farther racers go, the higher they score.

The race consists of a 10 minute swim in the Island Athletic pool, followed by a 30 minute bike ride at Revolution Cycling Studio, finishing with a 20 minute run on a treadmill back at the club.

There is room for only 36 participants. Register in person at Island Athletic Club. The entry fee is $35. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female in open and masters categories.
