    An unstoppable force struck Erikson Gym Tuesday: The Wildcat girls basketball team from Archbishop Murphy.

    At the final buzzer, ATM led 74-39, reflecting a long night for the Falcons from the start. The Wildcats remain undefeated in the Cascade Conference at 6-0 while the Falcons fell to 1-6.

    Falcon goalie Keegan Harshman barely made it to his high school Wind Symphony concert Tuesday.

    To get there, he had to break away from the swarm of teammate’s congratulations after beating back the Wolves’ penalty kick attempts and helping South Whidbey overcome Coupeville 3-2 after double overtime.

    LANGLEY — “Containment” was the magic word for the South Whidbey girls basketball game Friday.

    The Falcons stopped Coupeville’s aggressive bump-and-run tactics to win 60-26.

    The loss dropped the Wolves to third place in the Cascade Conference and gave the Falcons (2-7, 6-8 overall) their second league win to start the second half of the season.

    She’s fast.

    Whether on the track, soccer field or basketball court, that’s what people say — Lauren Sandri can really travel.

    A three-sport senior, Sandri was a member of the Falcon track team that captured the 2A state champion title last May in the 200-meter relay race. She was second in the 100-meter relay, fifth in the 100-meter and sixth in the 200-meter run.

    LYNDEN — In the end, the Lions were kings of the gridiron Friday night.

    The team from Lynden demonstrated aerial mastery in their 41-0 rout of the South Whidbey Falcons — Lion quarterback Tate Dallas threw 24 passes and connected on 18 for 124 yards.

    On Saturday, the Lady Falcons edged Archbishop Murphy by 1 minute and three seconds at District 1 championships, good for fourth place and a trip to state finals in Pasco Nov. 3.

    Riley Newman will be the first-ever freshman to play for South Whidbey in the state tennis finals in Yakima next May. He was named to the Northwest Conference first team after losing in the final round to Will Topp of Sehome.

    For the first time in Tom Kramer’s 30 years as South Whidbey’s tennis coach, a freshman will represent the school at the state finals in Yakima.

    Riley Newman took second place at district finals Oct. 19, losing only to Sehome’s Will Topp 6-4, 6-4. The state finals are May 24-25.
