On Saturday at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School, the Falcon 800-meter girls relay team cruised to a first place Kodak moment. Hope Richards, McKenzie Walker, Gwen Bakke and Lauren Sandri turned in a blistering performance for first place among all 40 schools in the 2A classification, running the distance in 1 minute, 45.63 seconds.
South Whidbey sophomore Lindsey Newman triumphed over her Lynden High School nemesis Saturday to take the state title in tennis singles.
Newman beat Erica Bosman 6-0, 7-5 to earn the 2A crown.
Tiger Martial Arts recently hosted its second annual tournament. A total of 39 contenders in 11 different divisions competed in kata (forms), kumite (pre-arranged sparring drills and free sparring.

When Mudder Race organizer Robert Frey wanted to pick the best time of the year to hold a mountain bike event, he looked back at history.
“We looked back over the last 50 years and picked the weekend that worked best,” he said. “As it turned out, in the last eight Mudders only two featured rain.”

For the first time, proceeds from the race will help kids long after their little legs have recovered from the Children’s Center Walkathon.
South Whidbey High School is sending five golfers to the state tourney.
South Whidbey’s Lindsey Newman became the Northwest District’s singles champion Saturday at Bellingham.
Newman was down 5-2 in the third set before staging a remarkable comeback to win the two-hour, 35-minute match over Erica Bosman from Lynden.
