South Whidbey boys win javelin, triple jump titles

Competing in only his third official triple jump competition, South Whidbey senior Kale Reichersamer claimed first place at the Cashmere Invitational on Saturday, April 12.

Competing in only his third official triple jump, South Whidbey senior Kale Reichersamer claimed first place at the Cashmere Invitational on Saturday, April 12.

The Falcon senior out-jumped the other two dozen athletes with a mark of 39 feet, 11 inches, which was 2.5 inches shorter than his career-best leap.

Teammate Nick French, also a senior, won the javelin event with a throw of 171 feet, 5 inches. The mark was more than three feet farther than the second-place finisher from LaSalle, Matt Wellner.

South Whidbey’s girls team had four first-place finishers on the 1,600-meter relay. Jaime Rodden, Anna Leski, Megan Drake and Mackenzie Hezel finished in 4:19.39, the fastest mile-relay race run by a South Whidbey team in the past four seasons. They needed almost every second as a team from Lynden was close on their heels with a 4:20.43 finish.
