Clinton gymnast Tera Applegate placed second and won the silver medal in the level four individual all-around at the USA Gymnastics Silver State competition in Kenmore. Qualifying gymnasts from 35 clubs throughout Washington participated in the event on April 25.
The 11-year-old gymnast scored personal bests of 9.25 on bars and 36.15 all-around.
“State was my best meet ever; I’m so happy that I reached my goal of scoring over 36 before moving on to level five next year,” Tera said.
Tera was gracious in taking second behind Lindzey Maddux of Mukilteo, with whom she carries on a friendly rivalry during the gymnastics season.
“It was so exciting for my teammate and me to take the number one and two spots,” Tera said.
Tera started gymnastics two years ago at Island Dance and Gymnastics in Clinton; she competed Saturday with the GYMagine gymnastics team based in Mukilteo, where she trains 12 hours each week.
