South Whidbey ices Eagles / Boys golf

In a day fit for polar bears, the South Whidbey High School boys golf team defeated Cedar Park Christian-Bothell 269-296 Monday, March 26, at the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club.

The Eagles’ Hunter Morgan and South Whidbey’s Ryan Wenzek were locked in a battle all afternoon for medalist honors. Neither led by more than one stroke throughout the round as Morgan edged Wenzek 42-43 over nine holes.

The Falcons carded four of the top six scores. Gabe Jacobson-Ross finished with a 51 to take third, and Noah Ratcliff and Soren Bratrude each shot 56 and tied for fifth.

Matthew Dixon (61), Brent DeWolf (63), Kellen Eager (66), Blake Chinnery (67) and Dane Saxton (69) also competed for South Whidbey.

The Falcons will play in a par-3 tournament hosted by Lake Stevens at the Battle Creek Golf Course in Marysville at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 28.

Thursday, the Falcons join seven other schools at noon at Legion Memorial for the Everett Invitational.

South Whidbey’s next home match is 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, when Glacier Peak and Marysville Getchell visit Useless Bay.
