In its first District 1 playoff game, the South Whidbey softball team fell behind Blaine 5-0 in the first inning before the game was postponed due to rain.

“Heavy, hard driving rain and a big wind,” said Falcon coach Don Wood. “We start again today [Thursday, May 20] at 3 p.m. where we left off, with Melanie Murphy on base, no outs, one ball and two strikes.”

Despite solid pitching from Falcon Katy Piehler, several infield errors and a missed fly in the outfield contributed to the five Borderite runs during the 2A Northwest District Tournament at Janicki Field in Sedro-Woolley.

Second round games are slated to follow at 5 p.m.

At the time of the suspension, Sehome had a 2-0 advantage over Granite Falls — the Tigers went undefeated in the regular season — in the first inning. Lynden had a 3-0 lead over Burlington-Edison in the second inning. Archbishop Murphy and Anacortes were scoreless.
