South Whidbey splits 2 matches / Tennis

The South Whidbey High School tennis team split a pair of home conference matches this week.

The Falcons slipped by Eastside Prep 3-2 Tuesday before falling to Overlake 5-0 Wednesday.

South Whidbey will play its third match in three days when Bear Creek visits at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.

Ranger Buck and Ian Maddox held off a comeback by their opponents in second doubles to collect the Falcons’ third team point and the win.

Singles: 1, Levi Buck won 6-0, 6-4; 2, Jordan Wu lost 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles: 1, Brent de Wolf/Joey Lane lost 6-4, 6-2; 2, Ranger Buck/Ian Maddox won 6-2, 7-6(7-4); 3, Cormac Workman/Max Rodriguez won 6-1, 6-0.

Overlake 5, South Whidbey 0

The highlight of the match for South Whidbey was Levi Buck’s efforts in first singles, according to coach Karyle Kramer. Buck gave Gavin Ybarra a battle but lost 7-5, 7-5. Ybarra came into the match with only one loss.

Singles: Levi Buck lost 7-5, 7-5; 2, Soren Bratrude lost 6-4, 6-0.

Doubles: 1, de Wolf/Lane lost 6-1, 6-1; 2, Ranger Buck/Workman lost 3-6, 6-4, 10-6; 3, Maddox/Rodriguez lost 6-4, 6-0.
