SW starts season with no-hitter / Baseball

Three South Whidbey High School pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in the Falcons’ 9-0 season-opening win over visiting Kingston Wednesday, March 13.

The game was added to the schedule after Port Townsend cancelled its Monday game with South Whidbey.

The win over Kingston “was a good one,” Falcon coach Tom Fallon said.

In addition to the stellar pitching performance by Ethan Petty, Brent Batchelor and Andrew Fry, South Whidbey looked good on offense with nine hits and played errorless defense.

The one-sided win also allowed Fallon to play his entire roster in the opening game.

Petty pitched the first three innings and collected six strikeouts. Batchelor and Fry each tossed two innings.

Jon Bartel led the offense with two hits, including a two-run double in the first inning that ignited the Falcons.

Kody Newman and Dexter Jokinen also registered two hits apiece.

The Falcons (1-0) host Chimacum (2-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16.
