A Wednesday rainout didn’t slow down the Whidbey Crabs baseball team as they got back into action and swept the North Seattle Blaze of Shoreline in a double header in Langley Sunday.

The Crabs won both games 9-4 despite being short on players because of injuries and other commitments.

The Crabs cruised to an early 5-0 lead in the opening game, pushing across three runs in the first and two in the second.  After an offense lull in the middle innings, they reignited in the sixth for their final four runs.

Houston Schmutz led the way with three hits, while Connor Antich, Ricky Muzzy and Charlie Patterson added two each.

Muzzy picked up the pitching win with three perfect innings and six strikeouts. He was supported on the mound by Max Divina, Trent Piehler, and, in a strong closing role, Schmutz.

In the nightcap, the timely long ball lifted the Crabs.

Muzzy had a home run and triple, and Josiah Sergeant cleared the bases with a triple in the sixth to put the game away.

Schmutz and Sergeant each finished with three hits, while Muzzy and Jordan Henriot added two singles.

Patterson pitched three innings without an earned run and was supported with strong relief from Schmutz.

Antich closed out the seventh inning with shutout ball to help the Crabs improve their season record to 5-0.
