In the final game of the season for the South Whidbey baseball team, the Falcons found themselves shorthanded because of sickness and vacations.

They traveled to Cedarcrest with only nine players and paid the price by losing 11-1.

The game wasn’t without excitement however with seniors Ben Ross and Austin Bennett heading to the mound for an inning of work by each. Neither gave up an earned run.

The Falcons scored their only run in the top half of the fourth inning. Ross and Bennett led the way.

Ross led off with a single up the middle then was doubled home on a Bennett drive over the center fielder’s head.

It was a tough season for the young Falcon squad. Pitching should have an experienced staff next season, with four young pitchers starting the majority of the games.

Falcon hitters also matured as the season progressed — the team’s average increased by

50 points from the start of the season.
