The city of Langley will be selecting and nominating one graduating senior for a $1,000 scholarship from the Association of Washington Cities Center for Quality Communities.

The local nominee will also receive a $500 scholarship from the Friends of the Langley Library.

Students living within the South Whidbey School District boundaries, and graduating from high school, home school or receiving a GED by the end of June 2012, are eligible to apply.

The scholarship is available through a competitive process for students who are actively engaged in their community and/or city government. Four scholarships will be awarded statewide. Applicants must be Washington residents and plan to continue their education in fall 2012 at an accredited college, community college or trade school on at least a half-time basis.

Applications are due at Langley City Hall by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23.

The Langley Library Board is coordinating the application and selection process, and will recommend the nominee to the city council at its March 5 meeting. Application materials and more information are available on the city website at http://www.langleywa.org/library.html.
