Students at South Whidbey Elementary School spent the day March 14 exploring science earlier this month.

The day was hosted by the PTA, who gathered South Whidbey science professionals, experts and enthusiasts to share their interests with the elementary school students. More than 20 presenters from Whidbey helped throughout the day teaching many topics including science, math and health. The day also included an assembly featuring guest presenters from the Pacific Science Center on “Jolts & Volts.”

Students were treated to an underwater robotics demonstration by Timmy Sinclair with Marine Advanced Education Center, estuary studies by environmental scientist Laura Johnson; x-ray examples with Dr. Dave Parent, a presentation on forensics by Naval Special Agent Shannon Salpaert, electricity experiments by Leonard Good, laser and cloud chamber experiments with Andy Gilbert of the South Whidbey Science Foundation, math experiments with Jean Cravey, to name a few.

Students from Langley Middle School also showed their science fair presentations.
