Laura Ellingson

Laura E. Ellingson, 72, of Callaway, Neb., passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Callaway District Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She had been under Hospice care for the past two weeks, along with being lovingly cared for by her family.

She was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Beloit, Kan., to George Washington and Olive Emily (Hemminger) Pepper. Laura attended school and graduated from high school in Kansas.

Laura was united in marriage and was blessed with two children, Laura Jeane and Brian Joseph Medlin. She would later divorce. She moved from Kansas to Whidbey Island, Wash. where she worked and retired from the Whidbey Telephone Company after 25 years. In 1974, Laura married Peter T. Ellingson in Washington. They owned a restaurant, a skydiving school and also owned a store called Whidbey Creations where she sold art from local artists. After retirement, Laura and Peter moved to Callaway, Neb. in 2003 to be closer to her daughter.

She loved being with family and pressing flowers into frames. She enjoyed gardening, reading and was very crafty. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband Peter T. Ellingson of Callaway, Neb.; son Brian Medlin of Cozad, Neb.; daughter Laura and husband Stacey Seng of Callaway, Neb.; step-son Troy Johnson of Callaway, Neb. and step-daughter Kelly Ellingson of Oroville, Calif.; two brothers, George and wife Annie Pepper of Lynnwood, Wash. and Fred Pepper of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Delores and husband Joe Valenti of New Jersey and Dorothy Roberts of Cawker City, Kan.; three grandchildren, Shawnee and husband Casey Durner of Woodlake, Neb., Nicholas and wife Crystal Seng of Callaway, Neb. and Dakota Seng of Lincoln, Neb.; two step-grandchildren, Jason Wiener and Joshua Wiener of Whidbey Island, Wash.; one great-granddaughter, Saige Durner of Woodlake, Neb.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Bethany Medlin, stepson Torger Ellingson and a brother-in-law.

A potluck dinner and a time of sharing with family and friends will be held 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library in Callaway, Neb.
