Falcons top Eagles, close in on 3rd place / Volleyball

Tightening its grip on third place in the North Sound Conference, the South Whidbey High School volleyball team won 3-1 at Cedar Park Christian Tuesday, Oct. 23.

The Falcons defeated the Eagles 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23.

South Whidbey and Cedar Park Christian are tied for third place in the league standings at 5-4, but the Falcons beat the Eagles twice this season and hold the tie-breaker.

The regular season finishes Thursday, Oct. 25. South Whidbey hosts Granite Falls (1-8, 3-10) at 7 p.m., while CPC goes to first-place King’s (9-0, 12-1).

If the Falcons finish third, they will face the No. 2 team from the Northwest Conference, Nooksack Valley (6-8), in the first round of the district tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at King’s. The fourth-place team must go to Lynden Christian (12-2) and take on the powerful Lyncs, who were ranked second in the latest state 1A poll at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The eight-team district tournament is double-elimination, and the teams will play a second match at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Lynden Christian. The top three teams advance to the bi-district tournament Saturday, Nov. 3, at Meridian High School.

In Tuesday’s win over Cedar Park Christian, South Whidbey’s offense was paced by Emma Leggett, who registered 26 kills. Emma Hodson added 11 kills, and Chloe Johnson handed out 39 assists.

Johnson also had five aces, and Leggett recorded eight digs.
