A special Coast Guard security unit will practice weapons training this morning in the waters north of Langley.

Coast Guard Port Security Unit 313, part of the Coast Guard’s Deployable Operations Group, will be conducting training south of Camano Head at approximately 11 a.m. today.

The training will consist of boats moving at high speed and the firing of blank ammunition, and no live ammunition will be fired, Coast Guard officials said early Tuesday. The unit uses modified 25-foot fiberglass hull boats, also known as “piranha.”

According to the Coast Guard, the unit recently moved to Everett from Tacoma and will be conducting training south of Camano Head for the first time.
