Whidbey kids invited to find Waldo

Kingfisher Bookstore has been selected to participate in Find Waldo Local.

Where’s Waldo? Throughout the month of July, the answer to that question is Central Whidbey Island.

Kingfisher Bookstore has been selected as one of 300 bookstores around the county to participate in Find Waldo Local, an event cosponsored by Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association, according to owner Meg Olson. Through this free, family-friendly event, the town of Coupeville will host the iconic children’s book character with a red striped shirt and round black glasses.

This month, children who visit Kingfisher will receive a passport with 25 different businesses and organizations throughout Coupeville, Olson said. A small Waldo will be hidden at each location, and when store patrons locate him, they can get their passport stamped or signed.

At the end of the month, kids who fill their passports will be eligible for prizes and a Kingfisher coupon. On Aug. 6, there will be a Waldo-themed party at Kingfisher with cupcakes and more prizes.

“It’s a way for kids and families to discover places in their community,” Olson said. The event is also a way for Coupeville organizations to welcome new patrons.
