Letter: Time to speak the truth about Jan. 6

Editor,

One year ago Jan. 6, 2021, our country survived an insurrection attempt on the capital. We witnessed it live on TV, an attempt at disruption and maybe the loss of our Democracy. Lives were lost and many injuries sustained, plus the emotional trauma probably most still carry.

Because of the actions of one former defeated president and the gall he alone brought forth and unleashed on our country and continues to do so. How sad he has no respect or reverence for the norms and institutions he was part of. Many people around the world look to us, we represent a beacon of hope to emulate, they go through so much to come here to become citizens. It would behoove members of the GOP who know the truth, but would hide it, to come forth and put the lies to rest. Stand up, better late than never.

Do you want to go down in history for your cowardice? Shame on you. Our country and our Democracy are worth it, the people who voted you in are worth it. It’s never too late to get on the right side of history. Now more than ever we must pass voter rights laws and pass laws to protect and secure the capital and the certification of elections. We have so much to be proud of in this country. It will survive. God bless our great country and the men and women who always work towards these ends of honesty and truth.
