LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Langley Library connects with people of all ages

Editor, Just before moving to paradise two years ago, my husband and I stayed in the lovely inn across the street from the Langley Library. I recall being impressed with the library, as I immediately recognized the vibrancy offered there. Coming from another state, where libraries cut back hours and struggled to meet needs of the growing digital community, I witnessed just the opposite at the Langley Library. Since moving here, my first impression was validated. Vicky Welfare and her staff are available, professional, and ready to serve a full menu to tantalize literacy.

Editor,

Just before moving to paradise two years ago, my husband and I stayed in the lovely inn across the street from the Langley Library.

Special interest programs and lectures are frequently offered. The attendance at these events affirms the relevance for participants of many interests and ages. Activities are abundant to connect students to library options; e-books to load on your electronic reader and computer access are part of the framework. Want a book? Rarely is that need declined. If the book is in the system, you’ll soon find it in your use. The staff is ready to help obtain material, either in turn-the-pages format or electronic access.

As a young child in the ‘40s, I was in a home without books. But, I lived within a few blocks of a public library. My memories are fond of those experiences and I credit the library system for introducing me to the world beyond my neighborhood. I am the first in my family to attend college where I achieved many degrees and credentials, including a doctorate. Libraries and teachers directed my talents and helped me discover my gifts.

Langley Library is one among the many strong libraries in the Sno-Isle system. When visiting the reopened, beautified Second Street Project, I recommend a visit to our library. Books, music, videos, computer and e-Book access are among the attributes awaiting. In our small community, we have resources to embrace the world through the library system.
