LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Letter writer gets crabby about crab proposal

Editor, I read the recent story in The Record about the Port of South Whidbey and the docks (in Langley and Clinton). Well let me tell you, Curt Gordon, it’s not a nightmare at all down at the Clinton dock. In fact, we have never seen you down there once. I have crabbed on that dock for 25 years and never had a problem. This year a lot of people from over town came over and most were really nice people, both families and out-of-towners as well.

Editor,

I read the recent story in The Record about the Port of South Whidbey and the docks (in Langley and Clinton).

We all got along just fine. Everybody cleaned up after themselves, made a lot of friends, caught some crab and had good clean fun. We had a few bad apples in the bunch, but we all handled it.

On the other hand, we the crabbers complained because everybody wants to park over there at the dock and get on the ferry. They leave their cars there all day. Not cool! But, the port doesn’t have anything down there; no trash cans and bathrooms haven’t been cleaned in a week. No landscaping or trimming the bushes, the grass has not been cut, no pressure washing, the grass isn’t cut — nothing. Yet, we the crabbers clean the dock, pick up trash and tell people not to park there. We kinda run the dock ourselves. They just hired a guy, but we never see him with a real tool in his hand, just a broom. Maybe try a lawnmower or pressure washer, or maybe talk to the people and get to know them a little. They will be more aware of the rules and how we crab down there, but the situation is far from a nightmare at all.

Take away crabbing on Whidbey? Now that’s dumb! Maybe do your job a little better, but we’re just fine down there.
