LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Mayoral candidate says no traffic light needed

Editor, Tim Callison’s concerns about traffic safety at the marina are well founded, but his proposed solutions of installing a traffic light and routing all boat traffic down First Street are expensive and create too many other problems.

Editor,

Tim Callison’s concerns about traffic safety at the marina are well founded, but his proposed solutions of installing a traffic light and routing all boat traffic down First Street are expensive and create too many other problems.

Instead, we could put up mirrors and install warning signs. These simple, inexpensive fixes would increase safety significantly. It might also be possible to widen the intersection (using grant money?), which would make turning from Wharf Street onto Cascade Avenue easier and safer.

I see no need for a traffic light or to route big trucks pulling boats down First Street, which is narrow and has lots of pedestrians and other cars.
