This letter is written to strongly support the Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF.) WAIF is a registered, nonprofit corporation with a clear mission and a vision which articulate the organization’s values. These are published on the WAIF Web site, www.

WAIF’s mission: To help all companion animals in need find loving homes. WAIF’s vision:

• Compassion

• Respect

• Responsibility

• Community

• Sound Business Practices

In WAIF’s vision is the statement: “WAIF’s greatest strength is the community’s passion, commitment and generosity. People working together for the animals is the heart and soul of WAIF.”

At this heart of WAIF are the volunteers who contribute their time, expertise and compassion in furtherance of WAIF’s mission and vision.

Many people in the community have also contributed money to help both the all-volunteer board of directors and the dedicated permanent staff to perform their roles in supporting the community (both animal and human) of Whidbey Island. Policies and procedures are in place to guide all members of the organization in the sometimes tough decisions that are made for the welfare of this community.

I have been a WAIF volunteer, board member, contributor and adopter. Indeed, I have animals that would not be alive if it were not for the continuing efforts of WAIF.

I have great respect, trust and admiration for those at all levels of the organization who work to continue to further WAIF’s mission and vision.

This unnecessary lawsuit detracts from the efforts of all the dedicated people of WAIF and needs to be brought to an end. WAIF should be applauded and supported for all they have accomplished and will accomplish in the future for Whidbey Island.

Whidbey Island is a better place because of WAIF.
