LETTER TO THE EDITOR| Solo competition was amazing

To the editor:

March 21, 2009…It was an evening to remember!

Three amazing young soloists played with the Saratoga Chamber Orchestra to a full house at WICA last Saturday night. The winners of the Third Annual Solo Competition, Marena Salerno Collins, Kalob Tatum and Rachel Means dazzled the crowd with beautifully polished and professionally presented performances. The fourth winner, Wyatt Homola, flutist, unfortunately was too ill to perform this weekend. He has been invited to perform with the SCO at a future date.

I am grateful to all who worked so hard to make this performance possible. It takes many people to make an event like this a success. So thank you to all the volunteers who offered their time and energy, the generous benefactors and WICA.

I especially wish to thank the members of the SCO advisory board, Judith Burns, Chris Harshman, Larry Heidel, Barbara Phillips and Kim Tinuviel. Here’s to SCO music director Legh Burns for his musical vision and ability to bring that to reality with his great leadership. And thanks to the late Michael Nutt, who fully supported this wild idea three years ago and told me to “Go for it.”
