LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We are taking our country back

To the editor:

I do not consort with nor support terrorists. I am neither a socialist nor a communist. I am not un-American in any way.

I am an American who loves his country above all else, and someone who truly puts country first. I do not lie about others in order to advance my personal agenda. I am a Democrat.

What is it about the character of many Republicans that allows them to spew such hateful, divisive speech? Do they hate democracy so much that they will say and do anything in order to make one side of the political spectrum hate the other side?

Is winning so important that they will shamelessly denigrate and dehumanize their countrymen and women who happen not to agree with them? What could be more un-American and undemocratic than not recognizing and honoring the integrity and sincerity of Democrats who have legitimate differences of opinion with them?

We are all witnessing firsthand the despicable, dishonorable attacks on Democratic candidates at all levels.

John McCain, who once had a reputation for honesty and integrity, is engaging in the ugliest smear campaign in recent history. His legacy will now be forever tarnished by his behavior during this campaign.

Dino Rossi and Linda Haddon have followed suit. Linda Haddon claims that the recent “hit” piece accusing Sen. Haugen of being a communist was not issued by her campaign, but she will say nothing to condemn it. She wants to benefit from the smear campaign engaged in by a right-wing organization while being able to disavow any direct involvement. This is right out of Karl Rove’s handbook. Shame on you Mrs. Haddon.

Fortunately, there are hordes of good Americans who refuse to allow the Rovian-Republicans to continue to divide us.

Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans alike are resoundingly rejecting these despicable, un-American tactics. We are taking our country back. Join us if you like neo-cons, but leave your tired, despicable, and, yes, un-American ideas and tendencies at the door.
