LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Vote to retain the incumbents

To the editor:

I am writing to express my support for our two current county commissioners, Helen Price Johnson and Angie Homola.

Though our country is experiencing the worst recession since the Great Depression, and while dozens of other local governments throughout the country are claiming bankruptcy, these two commissioners have guided our county so that we have been able to maintain essential county services with a minimum of new taxes and fees.

Opponents of these two commissioners have created a far different picture, claiming they are leading us to the poor house with their “Democratic tax and spend” policies and supposed over-concern for the “natural” environment. Most of this, however, is pure fallacy.

The truth is, most opponents are basing their attacks on the simple fact that these commissioners are Democrats, or as one frequent commenter likes to call them, the Democratic-Socialist. It has nothing to do with the real work they have been doing on our behalf.

The proof for me, of course, is close to home: over the last few years my property taxes have not seen a substantial increase. In fact, I believe that the taxes I’m paying for our roads, schools, parks, hospital and a broad range of services provided by the county are more than fair.

I hope you’ll join me in supporting and voting for commissioners Price Johnson and Homola, so they can continue to do the job we have elected them to do.
