Brothers of Baladi bring world beats to Langley

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts will be hosting a “globally groovy” evening with Portland-based musicians Brothers of Baladi. The show is a part of Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ Family Series and will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Friday Nov. 7.

The 2008 Grammy-nominated band brings a mixture of traditional Middle Eastern songs, covers and original material on unique instruments such as the oud, saz, mizmar, midjwiz, doumbek, def, riq and davul, according to a recent press release. The group also incorporates electric guitar, bass and drums and vocals in eight languages: Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, Farsi, Armenian, Berber, French and English.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for youths. Season tickets for the Family Series are available at a discount price through the box office.
