Saratoga Orchestra raises curtain on new season

The Saratoga Orchestra, now in its eighth season, will present its first concert of the 2014-15 season, entitled “Curtains Up!”

The Saratoga Orchestra, now in its eighth season, will present its first concert of the 2014-15 season, entitled “Curtains Up!”

The program will begin with The Overture to “The Barber of Seville.” Mark Salman will join as soloist in Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 Op. 25 G minor. Salman, hailed as a “heroic virtuoso,” has performed in locations throughout the world including Carnegie and Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The concert will conclude with the Symphony No. 7, Op. 92 in A Major by Ludwig van Beethoven.

This will be Anna Edwards’ debut as the orchestra’s new music director and conductor. Edwards will be leading the orchestra in her inaugural season “Soaring to New Adventures” featuring works by Rossini, Mendelssohn and Beethoven.

“Curtains Up” will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at South Whidbey High School.

General admission tickets cost $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and military. Students under age 18 may attend for free; students under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
