A South Whidbey man is on the lam again after allegedly evading arrest and causing a ruckus in Langley on Monday.

Wanted for outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court for assault and failure to appear for a DUI and burglary, police allege Travis Loetterle managed to escape the clutches of Langley Police Chief Dave Marks and three sheriff’s deputies.

“We went through businesses, around businesses,” Marks said. “It was ridiculous.”

“I’m sure people were getting a thrill out of it,” he added.

Marks and Loetterle have a long history of cop-and-robber chases, the police chief alleged. Two years ago, Marks tore his Achilles tendon chasing Loetterle, and earlier this year Marks chased him from Cascade Avenue, tackled him behind the South Whidbey Commons and found four syringes in his pockets, the chief said.

This time, Marks was visiting with the Langley Chamber of Commerce executive director when he spotted Loetterle getting off the bus across the street.

“The chase was on,” Marks said. “I can cancel my gym membership at this point, it’s a total workout.”

Marks and the deputies were not able to apprehend Loetterle despite an hour-long search through the city. The police chief said finding him was at the top of his to-do list.

“He’s my arch-nemesis at this point,” Marks said.
