Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club in Langley will stage its’ 20th Con Delatuer Trap Championship, 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29.
Con Delatuer was a club member known for his dedication to the club and his love for the sport of trap shooting.
An engraved belt buckle will be awarded to the club member with the highest overall score out of 150 targets: 50 16-yard singles, 50 handicap yardage and 50 trap doubles comprise the total.
Shooters will compete in classes according to their scores.
After the first 25 single shots, shooters will be placed in class A, B or C, depending on their score. Handicap yardage will be determined on scores after two rounds (50 birds) of singles, with with the highest scores getting the longest yardage. Shooters will self-classify for doubles.
At least 10 prizes will be awarded for class winners in each event, so everyone has a chance to be a winner regardless of previous experience.
Non-club members are especially invited to come out and shoot — a special silver eagle coin will be given to the high scorer.
In addition, shooters may elect to compete in the Lewis-class option. After all the scores are in for the day, Lewis-class participants are rank-ordered from high score to low then the list is divided into three or more classes depending on the number of shooters. The top two or three will share the Lewis purse.
Though “luck-of-the-draw” plays a part, it is a popular event.
Entry fees are: $12 per event or $30 for all three plus $10 for the optional Lewis class.
Lunch is available at the clubhouse, trap ammo can be found at the trap shack.
